Andrew Whitcomb
Seventeen . Shy
“I dare say that you have a house hold name, but for the rest of the class, will you inform us once more what your parents named you?”
My name is Andrew Johnathon James Whitcomb... The third... Yeah, it's a mouthful, I know. But it's a family name and I can't do anything about that. It's cool enough, I suppose. I prefer to be called "Andy" though. Andrew is an okay name, but it's too formal for me. Plus, my father is called Andrew, so if I went by that too, it would just be confusing. My parents wouldn't call me Johnathon or James either. No, because no one knows that name. I had to be called Andrew Whitcomb. But no, it's cool.
“Remind us again when you were born? I can never get enough of the story surrounding your birth.”
My birthday is October thirty-first, nineteen-ninety three. Yeah. I was born on Halloween. I haven't heard much about the story of my birth, but my maid told me that my parents were at the oil company's masquerade party, or something when she went into labor with me. I was born on my dad's desk. Fantastic story, I know. The ambulance came shortly after I was born, so luckily I got the medical attention that a newborn needs. My maid said that my mother was beaming, according to the people that happened to see her. Lorie was at home cleaning when this happened, so she went by the accounts of the witnesses.
“Okay, be honest here. Which are you in to more: guys or dolls? Don't worry, our lips are sealed. There are just for, er, tracking purposes.”
I don't know. I haven't really sat down and thought about who I was attracted to. Plus, I go to an all-guys school. It's not like there is a high supply of girls around for me to see if I'm attracted to them. My parents have had my in private, all-boys schools since I was in diapers. Yeah, you didn't know that there are all-boys, private nurseries? There are. I guess I've been attracted to girls, but I suppose it's possible to fall for a guy too.
“Alright. So, what do you do in your spare time? Any favorite past times? What are your favorite things in the entire world? Those special things that just make you want to smile?”
Chilling with my Warbler crew. They are awesome, and the best friends a guy could have. Well, a few of them anyway. Other than the select few, there are guys there that will have your back for life. Other than that, I love dancing. Any kind of dancing. I've never had lessons, or anything. I just picked it up and started dancing around in my room while I was bored. But as you can imagine, being in the Warblers isn't a great place to be for dancers. We aren't really a dancing show choir. The most that people do are sway in the background while Drake does all the singing. I'm used to it, though. Maybe one day we will actually have some people moving in the back.
“And sadly we all know that there are things that we just can't stand. What are yours?”
I hate it when people won't remain loyal and I can't trust them. I don't like when people can't seem to be kind. I mean, we have a no-bullying policy here, but people are still getting bullied every day in ways that the teachers aren't looking for, or they don't count it as bullying. Well, you know what? I count as bullying, and so do a lot of the boys in this school.
I have a lot of minor annoyances, but I try to remain as patient as possible. Plus I don't want to have to tell anyone that what they are doing is bothering me. Yeah, I'm a bit of a wimp.
“Any short or long term goals? Where do you see yourself five years? In ten? How do you plan to get there?”
Well, my parents goals for me are that I will be working at the oil company, waiting until I am able to take over for my father. That is basically my birthright as an only child. Having a desk job does not appeal to me. But I can't tell you the plans that I have, simply because I don't have any plans. I don't know what I want to do in the next five to ten years. I just want to have a nice life doing something I love. Which is not having a desk job working at an oil company. So I'll let you know my goals when I figure them out.
“So, that's why you're here over at Dalton?”
Basically, yeah. My parents think public school is too... poor for me to be going there. They think that Dalton is a great place for me to get the education I need to fulfill my place at my father's right side as the leader of his whole business. But that's fine. I joined the Warblers because one of my friends that doesn't go to Dalton any more heard me sing and told me I should audition. I'm glad I did because I love it a lot. It's the best part of my day; going to practice and singing (Or beatboxing) my heart out.
“If you could change anything in The Warblers, what would you change?”
The fact that we don't dance! I mean, you can't call moving your feet back and forth in a swaying motion dancing! I think we could be so much better if only we danced. Take a look at our competition. They are all such fantastic dancers, and they have great choreography to match their outstanding vocals. Our vocals are great, but we need something to go along with it. Something that makes us stand out.
“What makes you quake in your boots? If you had to pick one thing that scared you the most, what would it be?”
That I'll turn into a person that only cares about getting money and all the things that can make things better for me. That I'll become like my father in the fact that everything he does is for his own, or even monetary gains. I want to be a caring person that helps other people. I don't want to only care about myself.
“Is there a significant other in your life? How do you do with relationships?”
Ha. I don't have anyone. I'm much too shy to have anyone. I can barely talk to anyone in a friendly manner, let alone in a romantic manner. But I see relationships as a sacred thing. They're not something that you should throw around like they're nothing. When someone else's heart, and even your own are involved, you shouldn't treat that like it's nothing. But that's just my opinion. I mean. I've never even been in a relationship myself. So why should anyone listen to me?
“Now, you know that we adore you, but let's talk about some other people for a little bit. A little bird told me that you have some pretty well known parents. Who are they?”
Andrew and Janice Whitcomb. My mom doesn't have a job, but she spends all of my dad's hard earned money on clothes and those things that girls like. My dad is the CEO of Whitcomb Oil Company. It's been in the family for years. I don't really have a relationship with my parents that I can comment on. They aren't around enough for us to establish a relationship. But they take care of me, so I thank them for that much. I live at home rather than boarding at the school, and that was their idea. So I assume that means that they want me around.
“Any other important people in your family? Do you parents have any other children?”
Nope. I am an only child. It gets a bit lonely, but I guess that's what Dalton is for. I don't feel lonely there, no matter how much people avoid me for being "snobby". I am not a snob. It's called being shy and not having the guts to talk to people, dammit.
“Okay, you have to have known that we were going to ask. What's your biggest and best kept secret? I won't tell.”
Well, I raid my parents medicine cabinet a lot. Not all of the time, but just enough to where people would think it to be an issue. Now and then I like to feel good, and erase the pain of loneliness. I'm mostly a happy-go-lucky kid. But it's just something that happens, and after I do that, I wonder how that it even happened. It doesn't seem like me.... It's NOT me. No one knows other than me.
“Not that it matters or anything, but how much do your parents make?”
We're pretty well off. They have an oil company for God's sake. Of course we're going to be rich. I don't think we are the richest people in Westerville, but we are definitely up there. They're a bit snooty about their economic status as well. I don't really give a damn about it, but okay, if they think they're better than people by their status, more power to them.
